Command 4 : Let Your Light Shine | Day 26 Make Good Works Great Works! We were sitting around a large conference table at our Oak Brook Headquarters, when the director of the Department of Education of Moscow, Russia, asked this direct question: "How can your organization assist our teachers and students?" I said to the director, "We are committed to doing all we can to help; however, the resources are not within us, but rather with the Lord. I know that He will release them to us if we agree ahead of time to give Him the glory for doing it." Here was our opportunity to apply the Scripture, “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not” (Jeremiah 33:3). First, there was silence, and then all of the officials verbally agreed that if God provided for their needs, they would publicly acknowledge His provision. Later that afternoon, we received several unexpected phone calls from companies. One company offered to give thousands of pairs of shoes, and another offered to give 1,500 fur coats! Months later, I was at a meeting in Moscow when that director announced to thousands of pensioner teachers the gifts that were being given. She concluded by stating, "We are thankful to God for these provisions." A good work becomes a great work when it is achieved by the supernatural power of God. In every age and civilization, people will worship the god whom they perceive as being the most powerful. This was true in the days of Elijah. He declared to the nation: “How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him" (I Kings 18:21). The people answered not a word until they agreed to a "power contest." The prophets of Baal cried out to their god, and nothing happened. Then Elijah cried out to the Lord God. Only when the nation saw a supernatural work of God did the people fall down and worship Him, saying, “The LORD, He is the God; the LORD, he is the God” (I Kings 18:39). That same God is waiting for people to cry out to Him today. Often God will arrange impossible circumstances that can be resolved only by crying out to Him. His purpose in doing this is to affirm our need for Him and to demonstrate to the world His power. What needs do people around us have, which if God met, would demonstrate His power? Let's in faith apply the promise of Jeremiah 33:3 to these needs. -- |
