Command 4 : Let Your Light Shine | Day 28

Win by Writing!

Several years ago I asked a group of young people, "What is your greatest irritation?" Someone called out, "Younger brothers and sisters!" Many others groaned in affirmation. Then I explained that the answer to this problem was to write a book on how to make brothers and sisters best friends. The challenge of writing the book would open up insights and answers that would never be understood otherwise.

One day Sarah Mally and her younger brother and sister started such a project. Their book, titled Making Brothers and Sisters Best Friends1, has now gone through three printings and is ready for a fourth one in Spanish. Sarah and her family are being invited by a growing number of groups throughout the country to share their message. Sarah also initiated Bright Lights, a discipleship ministry with young ladies, and currently there are 90 Bright Lights groups in the United States. Part of this ministry involves teaching the girls positive character qualities, which promote family harmony.

Sarah traces the success the Lord has given her to a time when she was eight years old and her father challenged her to memorize chapters and books of the Bible. She recently finished memorizing the entire New Testament.

The pen is mightier than the sword, because ideas change behavior, and behavior changes the world.

Along with memorizing Scripture, you would be wise to challenge your sons and daughters to turn their greatest frustrations into a book.

Meanwhile, there are many possible entries for your journal this week:

  • What have I learned about light and love being non-directional? How have I improved my friendly greetings to strangers? What results have I seen?
  • In order to brighten my light for Christ, what separations from activities, possessions, or groups associated with darkness have I made?
  • What good works have I done or plan to do so that leaders get the credit, God gets the glory, and I get the joy of eternal rewards?
  • What has been the result of writing a personal letter of thanks to local government leaders?
  • What experiences have caused me to cry out to God, and what were the results?

The light that shines the farthest must shine the brightest at home!

Congratulations on completing four weeks of Scripture meditation day and night!
