Command 14 : Seek God's Kingdom | Day 95 Learn "Kingdom Law"!Every civilized nation has a system of law. Laws are necessary to establish and maintain civil order. Wise laws provide the freedom and direction that citizens need in order to prosper. "Kingdom law" reveals the wisdom of God in making each citizen healthy, prosperous, and successful. It is easy to view God's laws as arbitrary and restrictive. That is how Satan wants us to see them. He beguiled Eve by suggesting that God was keeping something good from her and Adam by not allowing them to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. (See Genesis 3.) The reason why God gives laws is to protect those whom He loves and to show the world His love, power, and wisdom through their lives. God gave Adam and Eve specific commandments for this purpose. He chose the nation of Israel to demonstrate to the world the wisest system of laws ever given. He has also given kingdom law to all of Christ's disciples. Many of the laws God gave to the children of Israel detailed outward actions, but kingdom law, expressed in the commands of Christ, focuses on inward motives. The more inner restraint the citizens of a kingdom have, the fewer laws they need for outward control. The laws of God's kingdom are not only vital for Godly living, but also for expanding His kingdom to all nations. We are told to go and make disciples of all nations, “teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:20). When I finally understood the importance of the commands of Christ, I made a list of them from Christ's teachings as recorded in the gospels. Some commands were given to specific people for specific purposes, but I noted 49 general commands that are applicable for all believers to follow. These commands provide specific ways to love God and love others, and because this is the foundation of all wisdom, the commands of Christ are the focus of these daily e-mails. (See Matthew 22:37-40.) Let's demonstrate our love for the Lord by keeping His kingdom law before our eyes and in our hearts by meditating on His commands. (See John 14:21.) That is the goal of this Daily Success program. |
